The Society was formed in 1984 to promote and encourage the study of family histories and allied subjects. It started at the Coffs Harbour Library with a few interested people who met over the library's microfiche. Some of these are still members to this day.
We later moved to a room at the front of 169 Rose Avenue and now we have our room which is at the rear of the business premises.
Before the digital age, researchers managed with microfiche and microfilm readers. Now with access to computers, digital resources, internet and family history software programs, we now have access to many more resources.
Our Society is able to offer members and visitors the use of an extensive collection of genealogical materials from around the world, starting with Australia and the UK, as well as the skills, knowledge and experience of its senior members.
We are a society where our members come together and share their time and knowledge to help one another. We exchange information, relate stories and experiences, along with friendly, constructive advice. Our members also volunteer as monitors to provide guidance and basic advice to others when and where needed.
Coffs Harbour District
Our district includes the city of Coffs Harbour and extends to Red Rock in the North, Urunga in the South and stretches beyond Dorrigo in the West.
Coffs Harbour District encompasses a large area.
Some of our members are from outside this area.
Members and visitors please be aware that we have been allocated 2 parking spots (marked by red dots, as shown in picture above). These are to be used Tuesday to Thursday. The other parking spots are for the other businesses that work in this complex. Other parking can be found on Rose Avenue or Marcia Street.
Our research room
In our room we have several workstations and a library of resources. Our volunteers are ready to assist you with your family history research.
